The Lion and Lamb

26 North Street, SO41 8FZ

The Lion and Lamb is a village pub on North Street in Pennington, serving meals and hosting live music.

The pub told the guide which dishes it can do gluten-free: loaded potato skins, prawn cocktail without the ciabatta, jacket potatoes, wholetail scampi as a gluten-free option, the house scotch egg without its Guinness chutney, skewered chicken kebab, moules mariniere without the ciabatta, slow-braised barbecue ribs, syrup sponge pudding with custard, and the house crumble, currently made with gluten-free flour. All the fries are cooked in a gluten-free fryer, the homemade onion rings are battered with gluten-free beer, and the burger comes on a gluten-free bun rather than the pretzel bun. The drinks list also carries gluten-free bottled beer and lager.

The chutney served with the burger and the scotch egg is not gluten-free, so ask for those without it. The kitchen checks dietary requirements when you book and again at the table, so say you are coeliac when you order.

Which fryer are the scampi and the onion rings cooked in?
